 Family Tree

Take some time and learn about your family history by interviewing family members, creating documents using desktop publishing, developing an online family tree, and searching the Internet for data. Creating a Family Tree allows children to explore their ancestral background as well as teaches them the basics of genealogy. By using their Spanish skills they can find real world connections.

Vocabulary:

Students will need to know the Spanish word for:

genealogy, pedigree, immigration, emigration, lineage, probate, will, ancestor, archives, census, circa, deed, surname.

Plkease search for the definitions using an online genealogical dictionary.

We will review the words out loud with the entire class so as to ensure the proper context.

They may use  computer to type words, Change font, style, size and color or words.

Add clip art to help show meaning.

Find other words online that relate to genealogy.

Visit Genealogy Vocabulary and Roots Web.

What Spanish phrases can be used for these key concepts?

Spanish Class Assignment:

Proyecto para la Unidad 10

Rather than take a test for this chapter, each student will create and present a project about their family.  Your project will be worth 75 points and your presentation will be worth 25 points.  Your presentation must be 3-5 minutes long IN SPANISH.  Presentations will be April 28, 29, & 30.  Your presentation is due on the day you are assigned to present.

Option 1: Family Tree

If you choose to do this option, you must make a family tree that includes at least 2 sides of your family (both your mom and your dad’s sides) and must range from you (and others your age) all the way up to your great grandparents (bisabuelos).  Your family tree must include pictures of most (if not all) members of your family and needs to be made on a poster.  When presenting, you should describe some of the people from your family (you will probably not have time to describe everyone).  Your finished products will be put on display.

Option 2: Power Point

If you choose to do this option you must make a slideshow about your family that includes at least 1 sides of your family (either your mom or your dad’s side) and must range from you (and others your age) all the way up to your great grandparents (bisabuelos) and include pictures of most, if not all, of your family members.  You may choose to focus on the life of one or two or your family members, but should also mention the rest.  For this option, you can choose whether you incorporate your recorded comments into the power point presentation or whether you simply talk about it during your presentation in front of the class.

For this option, you must bring your power point presentation to class on a CD either the day before your presentation or by 7:45 am the morning of your presentation!

Option 3: Podcast

If you choose this option you must make a podcast about your family that includes at least 1 sides of your family (either your mom or your dad’s side) and must range from you (and others your age) all the way up to your great grandparents (bisabuelos) and include pictures of most (if not all) of your family members.  You may choose to focus on the life of one or two or your family members, but should also mention the rest.  For this option, you need to incorporate your recorded comments into the podcast.  So, for your presentation in front of the class, you will just need to play your podcast.

For this option, you must either post your podcast online yourself and be able to find and play it quickly in class, or you must bring it to me on a CD the day before your presentation! (Or I can help you post it if you make an appointment with me during after school hours.)

Option 4: Report

If you choose this option you must write a 300 word report about your family.  You may choose to focus on any part of your family, although I would suggest you talk about several different people.  You should use vocabulary from previous chapters, and you certainly may look up new words in the dictionary.  You MAY NOT use a translation program on the internet!  You will not receive any credit for the project if you do.  If you would rather not present your report in front of the class, you may schedule a time to present it privately to me.  Your presentation should be a short summary of your report.
